Veteran broadcaster Awil Dahir Salad was killed on December 22, 2018 by a car bombing in the Somali capital Mogadishu where more than 20 people were also slain.
Salad was well known for his talk show “Dood Wadaag”. Mr Salad, 45, was a veteran reporter who worked to revive the country’s media before leaving the country in 2005 and returning several years later to work with Universal TV.
Mr. Salad started his journalistic career late 80s in Radio Mogadishu, a public radio run by the Somali government. Since then he has worked for both local and international news agencies, radios and TVs including Hornafrik radio and television.
He had been based in Mogadishu for several years and believed the situation there was improving after years of conflict. Late Awil Dahir Salad has left behind three wives and 26 children.
Members of Somali association of journalists extend their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Veran Journalist Awil Dahir Salad. May Almighty Allah give his soul a heavenly rest and his family members a spiritual strength to bear the loss of their beloved. Amen!
